Sleuths of the CID Forest cell on Sunday barged into a supermarket on MG Road and recovered quail eggs. The sleuths raided the supermarket and recovered 40 boxes of quail eggs which are protected under the wildlife laws, the Times of India reported. Each box containing 12 tiny eggs was priced at Rs 48.

Details:

No arrest has been made so far, as the investigating agency has asked for the possession certificates and licence to trade quail eggs and the regional manager of the supermarket is expected to appear before the forest cell on Monday.

The recovered eggs will be subjected to identification. The eggs are said to have been packed from the Japanese quail breeding centre in Chennai. The birds are killed for their meat.

"We are seeking an explanation from the chief wildlife warden of Tamil Nadu on the issue
